As always, I can't speak German, so they could be talking about Kim Kardashian for all I know.
Friseur und Fortschritt (1933-1939)
I couldn't find a whole lot of information on this one. These two images are from the May 1937 issue.
The next three are from the February 1934 issue.
Friseurkunst und Mode
July 1925
More under the jump!
Not a whole lot of exciting things going on in terms of hair this year, probably because Austria was a bit busy in terms of politics. Most of the issues are quite short (12 pages as opposed to 1925's 32) with not a lot of illustrations. The layout design of the cover and final page (an ad) are lovely though.
August 1936
As you can tell from the dirndls, Austrofascism had definitely taken hold by this point. Even just looking at magazines from this period is uncomfortable for me knowing what was happening at the time. However, by and large, politics tend to stay out of fashion magazines. This is why I like social history–we may not get a blow-by-blow of all the political events happening in 1936 from a hairstyling magazine, but we do get to see the small details of an individuals' life.
What do you think about these magazines? Do you have a favorite issue? I'm honestly sold on the 1926 issue based on the cover alone (I love the yellow!) Do you have any vintage hairstyling magazines?
XOXO,
Annie Belle
